Regents’ Scholarships

The Utah legislature made some key changes to the Regents' Scholarship program starting for the graduating class of 2020.

For All Regents' Recipients

If you are deferring your admission or transferring out of BYU, notify Off-Campus Scholarships via YMessage.

2020 High School Graduating Class

Due to new legislation, the graduating class of 2020 can now use the Regents’ Scholarship at BYU.

Students must submit a Verification of Enrollment by July 1 in order to be eligible for funds. Since BYU’s registration has been postponed, students can submit a request for Verification of Admission/Intent to Enroll. BYU will then verify enrollment with Regents’ AFTER the Fall and Winter semester add/drop deadlines.

Additional details will be added once more information is given from the Regents’ Scholarship Office.

Verification of Enrollment Request

2019 High School Graduating Class

BYU provides Regents’ your enrollment, GPA, semester credit completion, admissions deferment, and Supplementary (Gap) Award Eligibility. This verification happens AFTER the Fall and Winter semester add/drop deadlines.

All students must enroll in and complete 12 credit hours during the first semester they receive the Regents’ Scholarship. BYU will communicate directly with the Regents’ Scholarship Office to verify your enrollment.

Academic Award

Students are eligible to receive a one-time payment of $2,000.

my529 Award

Students are eligible for a one-time payment of up to $300, subject to contributions to their my529 account.

Supplemental (Gap) Award

Students who are eligible for the Supplemental Award may use it for up to 4 semesters. Students are required to complete 12 credits each semester and maintain a 3.0 semester GPA.

Students who do not earn a 3.0 semester GPA will be placed on probation for one semester. Students who do not earn a 3.0 semester GPA for a second semester will forfeit the scholarship. Students are still able to receive the Supplemental (Gap) Award while on probation.

The Supplemental Award will expire 5 years from the date of high school graduation, regardless of an approved deferment or leave of absence.

Class of 2018 & Prior

Students need to work with the Regents’ Scholarship Office for Deferments, Enrollment Verification, and Appeals. BYU receives the award information directly from Regents’.

Students are required to successfully complete 12 credit hours each semester starting Fall 2020 and earn at least a 3.3 semester GPA.

Students who do not meet the 3.3 semester GPA requirement may be placed on probationary status. If you earn less than a 3.3 semester GPA for a second semester, students forfeit the scholarship.
