Darron served a mission in Iceland. He earned a Bachelor's in Psychology from BYU and a Master's from Utah State University. He came to BYU in 1998 and started teaching Icelandic on campus, and did so for many years in addition to his regular job.
He and his wife joined their two families in 2011. All but 1 of their 11 children are girls. He also runs a business where he built a large tropical fish hatchery in his home to breed and ship rare fish to businesses across the country.
