BEFORE YOUR PRIORITY REGISTRATION DATE
Renew Your Ecclesiastical Endorsement
You must have a current endorsement for the semester that you are going to register for. Endorsements are valid for 12 months. When renewing your endorsement, make sure to choose the 'Continue my studies at BYU, where I am currently enrolled as a student' option.
Agree and Re-Commit to the Honor Code
Every 12 months, you must re-commit to the Honor Code. As a BYU student, you should seek to be honest in your dealings with others. You should complete and be evaluated on your own work. You should avoid academic dishonesty and misconduct in all its forms, including but not limited to plagiarism, fabrication or falsification, cheating, and other academic misconduct.
Resolve Holds
Check the Student Summary tab on MyMAP to see if you have any holds that would prevent you from registering. If a "yes" appears in the holds box, click on the "yes" for information about resolving the hold. Once you have taken action to resolve the hold, allow up to 30 minutes for your hold to be released so you can register for classes.
Determine Your Registration Date
You are assigned a registration priority date based on the number of credits you have completed through your most recent semester. If you are a transfer student, this includes any transfer credit you have that was accepted by BYU. If you are a new freshmen in your first semester (including if you are a missionary who did not attend before your mission), you are assigned the last day of priority registration. Find your priority registration date on the Register tab of MyMAP. Registration begins at 12:00 am MST on your assigned date.
Plan Your Schedule
Select courses and plan when you are going to take them using the Progress Report tab in MyMAP. The University core requirements and your major’s requirements will be listed there. Use a Major Academic Plan (MAP) for your major to learn suggestions of what order to take classes.
Use the Registration Cart
The Registration Cart is an optional tool in MyMAP that will register for your classes automatically, so you do not have to stay up past midnight to get the classes you need. Learn about the Registration Cart to make sure your cart processes automatically.
ON AND AFTER YOUR PRIORITY REGISTRATION DATE
Register for Classes
When your priority registration date arrives, you can register for classes. You can use the Registration Cart tool and verify that it automatically added the classes you wanted. You can also manually register for classes on the Register tab of MyMAP. If the classes you want are already full, you can waitlist a class. Some classes may require a permission-to-add code in order to register.
Add/Drop Classes
You can add and drop classes on MyMAP until the Add/Drop Deadline of the semester/term. Be aware that changing credit hours by adjusting your classes can affect charges, tuition, financial aid, and scholarship payments after the first tuition deadline. To avoid tuition changes and holds on your account, we recommend adding a class before dropping one.
Pay Tuition
Tuition is due seven days before the first day of class. If you do not pay tuition by this date, a hold will be placed on your account. You will not be able to register for classes until you pay tuition in full. The final tuition deadline is the same day as the Add/Drop Deadline.
Buy Textbooks
My Book List is an online list of all the textbooks you will need for your current class schedule. You can also search the system to find out which books are required for any particular course. You have the option of charging textbook purchases to your student account — just show your BYU ID at the textbook floor register at the time of purchase. The amount charged to your student account has to be repaid within 45 days of the purchase.
