International Student Deposit Policy

All admitted, undergraduate international students must pay a deposit

In order for students to be successful academically at Brigham Young University (BYU), they must have a solid financial plan.

The deposit will be held in escrow with the intent that it will be released to the student during his or her final semester at BYU. Students who experience unforeseen financial hardship while studying at BYU may petition to use up to $3,000. Only non-freshman can use their deposit. (Freshmen may be able to apply for a short-term loan.) To petition, please contact the Associate Dean of Students, in person at 3500 WSC, by phone at 801-422-4771, or by email

International students who find they are unable to cover the costs associated with their continued education at BYU and who have already accessed $3,000 from their deposit will be granted access to the remaining $1,000 for the purchase of a plane ticket to return to their home country.

How to Pay Your Deposit

We recommend students pay their International Student Deposit online. There are several options for making online payments (both US and International options). Please login and pay your deposit online: Pay International Student Deposit.

If you are unable to pay online, your deposit may also be made by phone or mail.

Phone: Call Enrollment Services with your credit or debit card information at 1-801-422-4104. Please be sure that your credit or debit card does not have a daily limit of less than $4,000 USD.

Mail: Send a $4,000 USD check or money order from a US bank. Please be sure to include a sheet of paper showing your contact information and explaining why you are sending the deposit.
