ACT/SAT Test Scores

All materials must be received or reported by the appropriate application deadline. If you would like to make any changes to your application after submission you will be required to withdraw your application and then resubmit. This will update the application submission timestamp.

Although most applicants are not required to submit a standardized test score to be considered for admission to BYU through winter 2028, we encourage applicants to submit a test score if they feel it is a good representation of their academic abilities.

NOTE: The decision to include or exclude a standardized test score on the admissions application will also impact scholarship consideration. For details about scholarship eligibility and test score policies, refer to the Financial Aid Office's guidelines.

Tests Taken with the New ACT Format

If you choose to submit an ACT score, BYU will only evaluate the sections that contribute to your composite score (Math, English, and Reading). While you may take the Science and Writing sections, they are not included in your evaluation for admission to BYU.

Tests Taken with the Previous ACT Format

If you choose to submit an ACT score, BYU will evaluate the sections that contribute to your composite score (Math, English, Reading, and Science). While you may take the Writing section, it is not included in your evaluation for admission to BYU.

If you want your ACT/SAT score considered with your application, you must include it when you submit before the priority or final deadline.

Sending Test Scores to BYU

BYU only considers the highest overall composite score it receives in its evaluation, minus the writing portion. BYU does not use a superscore for either ACT/SAT test scores. ACT/SAT test scores can be sent from the following sources:

• Directly from the ACT or SAT office.
• A copy of your official score report (mailed or delivered).
• For SAT scores, download the official PDF score report from your College Board account and submit a case to us. If your College Board ID number is not present on the SAT score report, list your College Board ID number in your case. (NOTE: A record locator number is not a College Board ID number.) Log in to your BYU account to upload the PDF to the "Submit a Support Case" page.
• For ACT scores, take a screenshot of your individual test score from your ACT account. The screenshot must include the following information (see example below):
  
  1. Your name in the top right corner
  2. "Welcome (Student's Name)!" in the top middle of the screen
  3. ACT ID below the "Welcome"
  4. Test date
  5. Your individual test scores
     NOTE: In recent views of the ACT website score reporting, the website does not allow you to include all five of these items in one screenshot. If two screenshots are needed, be sure that one screenshot includes 3 items and the other screenshot includes 2. After taking your screenshot(s), send them to us by submitting a case. You will need to log in to your BYU account to upload the screenshot to the "Submit a Support Case" page.

SAT to ACT Conversion Chart

Currently, BYU doesn't require the writing section of the SAT. We will, however, pay particular attention to applicants’ writing ability as demonstrated by the essay portion of the admission application. You can calculate your equivalent ACT score using the table below if you took the SAT on or after March 1, 2016. See the CollegeBoard’s website for information on SAT scores taken before this date.
