2023 & 2022 High School Graduating Classes
Opportunity Scholarship
All Opportunity Scholarship applicants must enroll at an eligible institution for the fall semester immediately following high school graduation, or obtain an approved deferment from an eligible institution that will begin that fall semester. Deferments are typically approved for students serving in the military, who have a major medical issue, or are participating in a humanitarian/religious service. Each school has their own deferment processes and deadlines, so be sure to reach out to an eligible institution early to determine what steps are required. No enrollment/deferment documentation needs to be submitted for the scholarship. Opportunity Scholarship staff will verify enrollment/deferment directly with each eligible school.
If the student is eligible, information will be provided to the college they attend to evaluate the individual award amount for which a student may qualify. Students that are part of the graduating class of either 2022 or 2023 will receive a maximum of $1,000 per semester for up to 4 semesters, subject to the student maintaining eligibility. Individual awards are applied toward tuition and fees after other state aid has been awarded to the student.
Students who receive a disbursement are required to complete 12 credits each semester, maintaining a 3.0 semester GPA.
Utah Promise Scholarship
The Utah Promise Scholarship is a statewide scholarship program that expands access to higher education opportunities to all Utahns by providing scholarships to students who demonstrate financial need. To apply, complete the FAFSA and any tasks we assign you, as well as the BYU scholarship application. To be eligible, recipients must demonstrate financial need, accept all other aid sources, have attempted less than 120 credit hours, and be a Utah resident (for the purposes of this scholarship, Utah residency is based upon the high school you graduated from).

2021 & 2020 High School Graduating Classes
The Regents’ Scholarship is applied towards tuition and fees after other state aid has been awarded to the student. The only state aid BYU receives is HESSP. The maximum amount a student may receive is $1,000 per semester for up to 4 semesters. Awards are calculated based on other state aid the student receives and where they attend college.
Students must maintain enrollment at an eligible college/university during the fall and winter semesters. In order to receive an award disbursement, students must enroll in a minimum of 12 credits.
The Regents’ Scholarship may be used for up to four semesters, but expires five years from the student’s high school graduation date.
Students who receive an Regents' Scholarship disbursement are required to complete 12 credits each semester, maintaining a 3.0 semester GPA.
Students who do not earn a 3.0 semester GPA will be placed on probationary status; however, if they earn a semester GPA lower than a 3.0 for a second semester, they will forfeit the scholarship. Students are still able to receive the Regents’ Scholarship while on probation.
BYU will automatically report enrollment and GPA information to the Regents’ Scholarship each semester.
Students who transfer colleges need to notify the Regents’ Scholarship office prior to the start of the semester at their new college. They will also need to contact the financial aid offices of the college you are transferring from, as well as the financial aid office of the college to which they are transferring. The Regents’ Scholarship office will assist students in transferring the scholarship.
